Worthe Holt Named Indiana Aviator Of The Year

St. Vincent Health executive to receive award during 2007 Indianapolis Air Show, August 25 & 26.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — May 22, 2007 — Rod Taylor and the executive committee of the Indianapolis Air Show today announced that Worthe S. Holt, Jr., is the Indiana Aviator of the Year for 2007.

Dr. Holt, executive vice president and regional chief operating officer for St. Vincent Health, is a U.S. Air Force colonel who has 25 years of military service. As a fighter pilot with the 113 Fighter Squadron, he earned an Air Medal for combat operations over Iraq.

In addition to his impressive military background, Holt is a boardcertified physician with extensive experience in both university and community hospital settings. He has led strategic planning for health system development and operations for community and teaching hospitals.

“Dr. Holt exemplifies what this recognition is all about,” said Taylor, emeritus member of the Air Show Executive Committee. “Not only is he passionate about flying and the aviation community, he has also made significant contributions to our state through his wide-ranging work in the medical field.”

Holt joins a distinctive list of previous Aviators of the Year, including:

  • Walter Best, owner, Best Locke
  • Tom Wood, owner, Tom Wood Automotive Group
  • Bill Cook, medical innovator and philanthropist
  • Dick Ervin (deceased), one-time president, Warbirds of America
  • Andre Lacy, president & CEO, FinishMaster, and chairman, Lacy Distribution Inc.
  • Margaret Ray Ringenberg, WWII pilot for the Women’s Air Force Service
  • Bob Thomas, owner, Capitol City Ford
  • Martin Fall
  • George Mikelsons, founder, ATA
  • Dr. David Wolf, astronaut and Purdue University graduate

Holt will officially receive the Aviator of the Year award during the 2007 Indianapolis Air Show at Mt. Comfort Airport, Aug. 25 and 26. The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels are the headliners for this year’s air show, with the Leap Frogs — the Navy’s parachute team — also scheduled to thrill the crowds.

Net proceeds from the Indianapolis Air Show, sponsored by Capitol City Ford, go to Riley Hospital for Children, through the generosity of a Central Indiana Community Foundation fund. In 2006, the Air Show donated more than $130,000 to the hospital, bringing its total contribution to more than $1 million since the show’s inception in 1997.
